If you’ve lived in Lagos long enough, you remember the "pre-BRT" era. It was a time of pure "gbasgbos" where getting from Ikorodu to CMS felt like a multi-day expedition.
When the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system was initially launched, it was a literal lifeline. It wasn't about "branding" or "aesthetics" back then; it was about survival. It was the city’s brave attempt to give the average Lagosian their time back. It helped the office worker in Maryland get to their desk in Obalende without looking like they’d just fought a war. It helped the trader in Mile 12 get their goods to market before the sun hit its peak. It was a functional, blue-and-red solution to a very physical problem. But then, something shifted.
The Great Brand Takeover
Fast forward, the BRT has evolved into something much more strategic than a transport system. It has become Lagos’ most dominant moving billboard.

Marketing directors realized that while the people inside the bus were happy to be moving, the thousands of people outside the bus stuck in the "go-slow" were a captive audience with nowhere else to look.
Imagine you are sitting in your car or a yellow danfo at Ikeja Along and you are frustrated. Suddenly, a sleek, fully branded BRT bus glides past you in its own lane. You have no option but to look! On Instagram, people can "Skip Ad" in 5 seconds. On a BRT bus? There is no skip button.
Whether it’s the Abule Egba to Oshodi corridor or the TBS to Berger route, these buses act as massive, 40-foot canvases that traverse the most populated areas of the state. It’s mass-market saturation that reaches the CEO in his Prado and the student at the bus stop simultaneously.
The smartest Lagos brands are no longer just putting a phone number on a bus. They are using the BRT as a bridge to their digital world.
We’re seeing brands use the "moving billboard" to launch viral hashtags or massive QR codes that people scan from their car windows. By the time that commuter gets to the office, they’ve moved from seeing your bus on the Third Mainland Bridge to following your page on Instagram.
